This workshop will cover bird identification (songs/calls/habitats/distribution/seasonality); survey techniques; literature resources; birds and the law; evaluating sites/birds of conservation concern; impacts of developments (include examples of types of development and their impacts on specific birds); and mitigation/compensation.

This workshop will cover:
- introduction to UK birds and habitats
- techniques for surveying birds
- bird identification
- ecology and habitat requirement
- interpretation of survey results
- health and safety; and
- wildlife legislation, policy and conservation issues.
The day will include a visit to two sites to assess species present, evaluate the sites and discuss potential impacts of development on birds and possible mitigation. Opportunity will be given to discuss all aspects.
Who should attend this workshop?
Environmental consultants looking to increase their knowledge of birds with regard to either consultancy project work and field surveyors for general survey and assessment of sites.

12:30 Field trip to two local sites to demonstrate survey techniques, evaluate birds and discuss issues
16:00 Finish - return for cars; collect feedback forms and give out CPD certificates
