This workshop will cover techniques for surveying ponds for newts; great crested newt identification, ecology and habitat requirements; interpretation of survey results; health and safety; and licensing, legislation and conservation issues. The day will include a visit to ponds and ditches within an active mitigation site. The day will provide an excellent opportunity to case study population monitoring and habitat creation for a mitigation scheme. Opportunity will be given to discuss the ongoing mitigation scheme and its success. Optional night-time and morning visits to the ponds are also proposed to conduct an amphibian survey, subject to health and safety site assessment.
Cost: £60 IEEM members, £120 non-members.
