The aim of this workshop is to provide an introduction to the Habitats Regulations Assessment of plans and projects. A brief introduction/refresher of the Habitats Directive and Regulations will be provided followed by a step by step guide to assessment including determining ‘likely significant’ effect, ‘in combination’ effects and appropriate assessment. Worked examples will be used.

The main aim of this workshop is to provide an introduction to the Habitats Regulations Assessment of plans and projects, covering:
- an introduction/refresher of the Habitats Directive and Regulations;
- an introduction to requirements of Article 6;
- an introduction to Regulation 33 advice;
- determining likely significant effect;
- in combination effects; and
- appropriate assessment; determining adverse effect on site integrity and use of the precautionary principle.
Worked examples will be used throughout to illustrate the procedures.
