Woodland National Vegetation Classification (NVC) Survey for Practitioners

This workshop is intended for those with experience of woodland NVC survey in a variety of situations. We will take an overview of the NVC system in practice; using NVC field survey in a variety of woodland situations; we will take a critical look at woodland NVC and its applications; reporting an NVC survey. Following a brief overview of woodland NVC methods, we will undertake field survey, gathering data to allow Community descriptions to be assigned. Participants will analyse the data to assign Communities and examine the challenges presented when interpreting data and mapping communities.

IEEM Members: £80 (£70 if booked before 11 March 2010).

  • A copy of Rodwell JS (Ed) 1991. British Plant Communities Volume  1. Woodlands and scrub. Cambridge University Press, Cambridge.
  • A packed lunch.
  • Clipboard and pencil.
  • Plant identification guides (if needed).
  • Hand lens (x10 or x20).
  • Wellington boots or walking boots.
  • Outdoor clothing.
