The workshop will review everything you need to consider to improve your ornithological skills from clothing and equipment to reference material. You will also discover the nine key factors of bird identification – a must for every field ornithologist!

This workshop covers the specialist skills required to become a successful field ornithologist. This workshop will include a minimum of six hours fieldwork along with classroom sessions, where the skills learnt during the workshop can be put to test in the field. The workshop will review the five key elements of successful field ornithology – the importance of clothing, selecting the right equipment, making sense of reference material, perfecting your field craft and nailing bird identification.

- Binoculars, telescope and tripod (if they already have them but not essential).
- Outdoor clothing.
- Field Guide.
- Insect repellent.

- How to improve your field skills.
- Ensure they are wearing the correct clothing – to blend in, limit disturbance and be as comfortable as possible.
- Select the appropriate equipment to maximise their identification abilities and research reference material to improve or expand their knowledge.
