This workshop will teach the identification of freshwater macroinvertebrates to Biological Monitoring Working Party (BMWP) family level with the emphasis on field characteristics allowing water quality and conservation assessments of freshwaters. This is primarily a practical workshop and should enable participants to assess the water quality and conservation value of ponds, rivers and streams.

IEEM Members: £80 (£70 if booked before 27 March 2010).

The history and use of BMWP scoring is introduced together with a set of keys to identifying freshwater macroinvertebrates to family level in the field wherever possible. A standardised sampling approach and interpretation of scores and extensions to the method are also discussed. This is primarily a practical workshop and should enable you to assess the water quality and conservation value of ponds, rivers and streams.
